Scattered 100-mile beach rides, 5,000 feet of climbing almost once a week, 60- to 90-mile Saturday group rides, two hours of interval work, coffee-shop pick-me-up spins, Friday-morning bagel-shop recovery rides, race-day warm-ups. I spend a lot of time on my bike. And when it’s solo time, which can become mundane and uninviting, music comes in handy. So I’m always on the hunt for new music and revisiting older songs. I tend to go in cycles, always having an eclectic mix on my iPod, and am the first to admit I will have a current favorite stuck on repeat until I grow tired.
With the workload this year, it’s been essential for me to have a varied playlist, with upbeat songs to get the blood pumping, slower ones to calm my heart rate and keep the nervous energy at bay (especially warming up for a time trial), a few I grew up listening to. Intermixed with a few girl-powered anthems because I think every girl/woman should have at least three in their arsenal, a few lovey ones for the newlywed in me, a few more with happy memories tied to them, and a couple randoms just because. This is my summertime training playlist.
Any music suggestions? What’s been your go-to song this summer?
