Wow. It sure has been awhile. And I don’t really have any other reasons for not posting other than being lazy, sorry!
But let’s just jump right in, shall we?
Andrew and I ride pretty much every day of the week. The rides aren’t always the same, the times we finally get started aren’t always the same, and sometimes who don’t even get to ride with each other. But one thing is pretty much a constant – bagels once a week. We try to keep them strictly to Fridays, but even that’s not always guaranteed, and so we do our best to keep it to at least once a week.
Why? Aside from my love for tradition, and it being a nice way to end the week (and take advantage off/easy days), I have a love for being a regular. I’ve always wanted to go in somewhere, be friends with the employees and be able to say, “good morning! I’ll have my usual.” There’s just something about being a part of something, being connected to a community, and the routine of it has always had appealed to me. So when the employees were excited to see us, asked how we were doing, and told us our order before we even said anything, I knew we had made it. We had become regulars. I would have done then happy dance right then and there in my cycling shoes but it was already hard enough to walk on the flooring with the slippery cleats.
And then it got better.
One day we decided to sit outside, and in doing so made friends with the group of guys that are there every morning (the true regulars). Saying hi and having small talk before joining them at their table, and soon enough we were a part of their group.
And a bonus? One of the guys, Dee, has even become my honorary grandpa. I look forward to seeing him almost as much as I look forward to the con-egg-tion.
